Thank you for joining me once again at “Abound in Grace” as we continue our study of eternal judgement. To-day we will discuss walking in the light.
The Greek word used for light is the word “phos” and it means luminousness, it comes from a word that means to make known ones thoughts, to speak or to say.
Eph.5:8. (Amp) For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].
John.1:1-5. (Amp) In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].
John.8:12. (Amp) Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.
Adam was created a glorious light being, he was created in the image and likeness of God and God is a light being.
1John.1:5. (Amp) And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way].
Adam was clothed with God’s glory. Once sin entered into his spirit, he discovered that he was naked. We could say, the light went out and darkness entered. The realm where Satan lives and operates is called the kingdom of darkness, he is the ruler of darkness. Now we have a situation where darkness is entrenched in every man’s spirit, no wonder the world is in such a mess. The realm of darkness is a realm where sin, sickness, poverty, fear, doubt, worry and confusion and all that Satan represents reigns. There is no way that man can escape the darkness except through the new birth.
In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].
The entrance of the Word brings light, illumination.
Ps.119:130. (Amp) The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.
Ps.119:105. (Amp) Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
The words written in your Bible are a collection of the thoughts of God record in book form so that you have ready access as to how God thinks and what He has to say on any given subject. If we allow the Word to govern and shape our thinking then that Word becomes a lamp to our feet and it lights the path of life as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, this dark and dangerous world.
Listen to Jesus’ (the Word) bold confession of who He is: He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.
Remember the word used for world refers to the world system, which is a satanic system.
1John.1:5-10. (Amp) And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way]. [So] if we say we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents]. But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations]. If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth [which the Gospel presents] is not in us [does not dwell in our hearts]. If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action]. If we say (claim) we have not sinned, we contradict His Word and make Him out to be false and a liar, and His Word is not in us [the divine message of the Gospel is not in our hearts].
This is a beautiful thought, that God is light and that God is love, so he who walks in the light of God’s Word is walking in love.
Walking in darkness is walking in the realm of sense knowledge, we can’t walk with God and have fellowship with Him in that realm, we fellowship with God through the Word and faith.
1John.2:1-6. (Amp) My little children, I write you these things so that you may not violate God’s law and sin. But if anyone should sin, we have an Advocate (One Who will intercede for us) with the Father–[it is] Jesus Christ [the all] righteous [upright, just, Who conforms to the Father's will in every purpose, thought, and action]. And He [that same Jesus Himself] is the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not for ours alone but also for [the sins of] the whole world. And this is how we may discern [daily, by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with Him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments). Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognize, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep and obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the Truth [of the Gospel] is not in him. But he who keeps (treasures) His Word [who bears in mind His precepts, who observes His message in its entirety], truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected (completed, reached maturity). By this we may perceive (know, recognize, and be sure) that we are in Him: Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.
We know that Jesus walked in the Word, so if we walk in the Word we walk as He did, by walking in the Word we walk in life (which is eternal life, the life of God) and are then walking in the light and wisdom of God. Walking in the light means to walk in and act on the Word of God.
It is time for me to say cheers for now, be blessed in all that you do and I’ll see you next time.
To be able to walk in the illumination of God’s Word you must be born again, Jesus is the light of life, to be born again means to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour and you do that by praying the following prayer from your heart and receiving the promise of eternal life by faith:
“Father, it is written in Your Word that if I confess with my mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in my heart that You have raised Him from dead, I shall be saved. Therefore, Father, I confess that Jesus is my Lord. I make Him Lord of my life right now. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead. I renounce my past life with Satan. “I thank You for forgiving me of all my sin. Jesus is now my Lord, and I am a new creation. Old things have passed away. Now all things become new in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
